MATING STRATEGY FOR YOUR FEMALES Camelids are often regarded as less fertile than other domestic livestock. This is not true! At least 50 % of matings between fertile machos and hembras result in pregnancy, comparable rates to sheep, cattle and goats. However, there is a tendency for llama owners to focus on females that fail to conceive because of their individual value and persevere with attempts to get them pregnant. This is in comparison with other domestic livestock where females that fail to conceive after 3 matings are removed from the gene pool by culling....
